RE: What we want in a user interface
Yes exactly.

Like control over announcements. One thing I hated was that I would be in the middle of things and the announcement would pop down. I much preferred if it could just beep me.

Another thing like in winamp, you can have panels that separate or just pop them together into one window and those windows are collapsable too.

The ride menu should have the flat rides or coasters broken down into pop out side menus with the category of ride types, like woodies, steel coasters, odd coasters, historical coasters like the coney scenic rail coaster etc. Same for flat rides perhaps broken down two way either by ride movement type or ride gener type as exists in rct3 gentle, thrill transportation ride etc.

If you want to be a big part of this, pleas take time to participate as the dev will consider seriously much input.

RE: What we want in a user interface
Okay went to the rct chats and talked with folks.

They want collapsible windows for the interface, maybe it can change to just a plus like this one + and than you can right click and drag that small item around the screen out of the way.

User interface that has windows that can be stretched, and also pulled appart into small separate draggable windows or thrown together stacked like in the music app winamp. Other things that would be neat are access the park or environment window throught the main user interface rather than in the park or scenario itself.

Honestly, RCT3 nailed most of this pretty well. Perhaps a button for going from grid to off grid mode. A button to quickly pull up the alignment manager, path manager and building generator. That brings me back to the bg.

The bg needs to be able to do some incredible things not only with its own formatted file but also incorporate and manipulate the imported 3d items as well. It is indeed a programming feat, but the BG will make life easy for many a park builder.

I would like a UI that supported mutliple windows open so you could better manage your park.

A Music list or Juke Box mode for all rides and even scenery pieces and also a startup option for sound or music could be a tracked event or even when a peep hits on a special invisible tile. It could be called a noise tile, when a people walks over it, they trigger the sound attached to it.

RE: What we want in a user interface
I think the rides should have sub menus like themed versions of the same ride would be in that ride category or you could select the theme and they would than be displayed as the default ride with the other variations in the sub menu for that themed ride. Select the generic category and we are back to normal. This is an indexing we hadn't seen before. Same with scenery, want haunted scenery select to index by haunted than that shows up and a pop out sub menu with all the others, western scenery same deal. RCT3 didn't offer this properly, you had to deselect a category first, so this theme indexing would also be a quick aid for park builders who want to get through the stuff faster.

The one thing that is totally needed but not mentioned yet is a bloody undo button for your inevitable screwups!

RE: What we want in a user interface
The devs already have that covered. They will have an undo/redo button.

I for one can't wait.

I just made a quick (very quick) mock-up of the menu, I know it looks very RCT3-like at the moment, uses RCT screenshots (just to give you a better idea) and you can't click any of the buttons. do you think there's anything I could improve on?

Another idea I've had is to have 3D things going on in the background e.g, the menu is on top of a "live" view of a merry-go-round in a park
Ideas?

P.s: This is just a suggestion

RE: What we want in a user interface
Personally I think it's too much RCT3.
We should do something different in the background, like a small park running or so.

Maybe for our back drop load a random coaster out it in an all white environment and then give the user the option to ride it.

RE: What we want in a user interface
I hate being the only one who thinks this probably. For the backdrop instead of random coasters, or just some small park. How about promotional videos for scenarios kinda like in RCT1 except in 3D. I really think for the start menu we should go with what was purpose above. It might not be a over used look but still it's pretty interestin desgin that would keep users interested and it wouldn't be an eye sore since it would be colored red but still be transparent enough to see the video behind it. If anyone else thought about this then I say thanks.

Aside from the copywrite issues, just what is wrong with the rct3 UI? I always rather liked it, and we certainly could do worse.

RE: What we want in a user interface
I'd like to see a customizable background, where you could put pictures, videos, logos from the game, or any other kind of picture.

Also, how about customizable colors, and buttons? Like make buttons in photoshop, gimp, and import them as images into there, and different colors for the splash screen, using hex color codes (not sure of the proper name) or something that basically gives us "unlimited" colors.

And I will try to get a mockup of what I'd like to see later.
